Manchester United unwilling to bid over £80million for Jadon Sancho

Speaking on the Football Terrace Podcast (h/t The Express), Eurosport’s Dean Jones has stated that Manchester United will not make a bid of over £80million for Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.

The Red Devils have been long-term admirers of the English international. Having missed out on securing him twice in the past, they remain hopeful that a third attempt will prove lucky.

However, they are keen to do it on their terms and will not go above their valuation of the player. Whether this is a calculated move or just another shot in the foot remains to be seen.

“I’m still told £80m is really the ceiling for United, they’re very keen not to be seen to be going over that.”

Sancho is one of the best young players out there

Jones goes on to admit that United remain optimistic about a deal being completed. However he did admit that there is a lack of clarity as to just where the deal stands.

“The Sancho vibe is still good from United’s angle. It’s hard to get a proper grasp of where we’re at in terms of a fee.”

United have so far made two bids for Sancho this summer. However, both proved unsuccessful, with Dortmund sticking to their asking price. While it will not see United break their club record, it will match what we paid for Harry Maguire in 2019.

Will United miss out on Sancho yet again?

All optics, no intent?

According to Manchester Evening News, Dortmund are seeking £82million for Sancho. The fact that United are unwilling to bridge this slight gap could prove telling.

The Germans appear to be ready to sell the English ace and United are aware of what it will take to land him. The fact that they are willing to hold out for a relatively small amount is worrying.

There is a saying about mariners that bad things happen in threes. Given the way we are going, it will not come as a surprise if an attempt for Sancho falls flat for a third time.
