Solskjaer expects Mason Greenwood and Jadon Sancho to thrive alongside each other at Manchester United
According to The Mirror (h/t The Express), Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not believe signing Jadon Sancho will hamper the development of Mason Greenwood.
Haven fallen short on multiple fronts last season, the Red Devils are keen to bolster their squad this summer. One of the biggest names looking likely to make the move to Old Trafford is Sancho. Having missed out on him last summer, United appear to be closing in on their man this time around.
One of the best young wingers in world football, Sancho can be expected to make the right-wing his own. He is a considerable improvement over the inconsistent Daniel James and the upcoming Amad Diallo.
Another player set to be impacted by Sancho’s potential arrival is Greenwood. The youngster has steadily established himself as a first-team regular in the last two seasons. Capable of playing anywhere along the frontline, he has predominantly started as a right-winger, a position that could now be under threat.
Solskjaer however does not harbour any concerns and believes both players can thrive in the same team. A major reason for this is the Norwegian’s belief that Greenwood will eventually establish himself as a centre-forward.
Playing to his strengths
It is a position that the player has experience playing in. In fact, Greenwood is a clinical finisher and has shown that he is a consistent scorer when played up front. Playing him up front with Sancho on the flanks could give us a young dynamic attack bursting with pace and power.
According to the report, Greenwood is set to rotate with Edinson Cavani in the centre-forward. It also goes on to mention that Anthony Martial could be shifted out wide. After all, someone had to make way and it appears the Frenchman will be the one to do so.
