Constantin Eckner: Borussia Dortmund not satisfied with improved Manchester United offer for Jadon Sancho
According to journalist Constantin Eckner (h/t The Express), Borussia Dortmund appears to have made their stance clear on Jadon Sancho after an improved bid from Manchester United.
The 21-year-old has been on the club’s radar for some time now. Having failed to land him last summer, the Red Devils appear to be making a concentrated effort to come out on top this time around.
United having failed with their opening bid have now tabled an improved £75million bid for the English international. Although an agreement is close to being reached, there still is much negotiation to be done.
While Dortmund feel United’s offer is something to work with, they do not appear to be ready to accept it. Eckner goes on to reveal in another tweet that United’s offer falls below what Dortmund want for Sancho.
He went on to add that United believed the new offer has a higher guaranteed fee and more achievable add-ons. This should be a welcome addition to Dortmund, who had earlier expressed doubts regarding certain clauses.
While Sancho is a special talent, Dortmund’s scepticism regarding certain clauses is understandable. After all, Anthony Martial also has a Ballon d’or clause in his contract. Despite his raw ability, the Frenchman is currently miles away from even being nominated for the honour.
Serious but not there yet
United’s improved offer suggests that they are serious about landing the player this summer. If anything, it already outstrips what we did to sign him last summer. There is every chance that should Sancho meet all the clauses in the offer, he could end up being United’s second-costliest transfer ever.
It was revealed by Fabrizio Romano earlier this month that Dortmund are seeking a fee of €95m for Sancho’s services. With our second offer now coming to around €90m, there isn’t much that is keeping us from reaching an agreement.

The ball is United’s court and it remains to be seen if they will come back with a third improved offer for the player. Dortmund, for their part, appear to be ready to sell. The onus is on us to make an offer that they deem acceptable.
