Boost for Manchester United in Andre Silva pursuit as Frankfurt identify potential replacement
According to Spanish publication AS (h/t BBC), Manchester United may have been handed a boost in their pursuit of Portuguese striker Andre Silva.
Silva is coming off the back of a scintillating season in the Bundesliga. With 28 goals and five assists in just 32 Bundesliga appearances, he outperformed the likes of Erling Haaland. In fact, only the mercurial Robert Lewandowski outscored him last season. (h/t BBC)
Despite having Edinson Cavani sign a one-year extension, United can do with more depth in the forward department. At 34, Cavani cannot be expected to start week in week out and will need to be managed properly.
In Silva, we may have a player who is in the right age group to make an impact. A prolific scorer, the 25-year-old has two years left on his deal.
Eintracht Frankfurt appear to be readying themselves for his departure and are eyeing former striker Luka Jovic, who is now at Real Madrid. Los Blancos appear to have run out of patience with the Serbian and are open to selling him to the Germans this summer.
Silva has a relatively cheap £26million release clause in his contract. While the likes of United and Chelsea have been linked with the player, they are yet to make any concrete moves to land him.

Anthony Martial remains as inconsistent as ever while Mason Greenwood can be considered too young to shoulder the burden of leading the line alone. With United already in the fray for Jadon Sancho, it is debatable if we can go big for the likes of Kane or Haaland.
Bringing in Silva could prove to be a shrewd move. Whether we are willing to do that remains to be seen.
