Manchester United star Diogo Dalot keen to stay on at AC Milan
According to TuttoMercatoWeb (h/t Sports Mole), Manchester United star Diogo Dalot is keen to stay put at AC Milan for the upcoming 2021/22 campaign.
The 22-year-old played second fiddle to Aaron Wan-Bissaka in the 2019/20 campaign where the latter established himself as the club’s first-choice right-back. Dalot was subsequently sent to Milan on a year one-year last summer.
While he did not paint the town red, Dalot did garner playtime and played his part in helping the Rossoneri secure Champions League qualification. He made 33 appearances for them across all comp[petitions, scoring twice and assisting three more. (h/t Transfermarkt)
According to the report, Dalot is keen to stay in Milan. The Italians are also keen on extending his stay and have made a proposal to United. The ball is now in the Red Devils court and it remains to be seen what they choose to do.
Dalot was called up to replace Joao Cancelo in the Portugal squad for this summer’s Euros. The defending champions began their title defence with a 3-0 win against Hungary on Tuesday night. Just how much playing time the 22-year-old will garner remains to be seen.
As things stand, Dalot is at best the second choice right-back at United. Although he is capable of playing on the other flank, the presence of Alex Telles and Luke Shaw looms large.
To add to his woe, United are keen to bring in Atletico Madrid star Kieran Trippier to compete alongside Wan-Bissaka. Doing so will severely limit Dalot’s playtime should he remain at Old Trafford.
A move to Milan could prove to be the best solution for all parties involved. Whether that will be on loan or a permanent switch remains to be seen.
