Manchester United fans react as Paul Pogba stars for France in win over Germany
Manchester United star Paul Pogba spoke about how he felt constrained at Old Trafford ahead of France’s Euro 2020 opener against Germany.
Yesterday night he showcased just what he is capable of in a dominant win for the world champions. While he may not have gotten on the scoresheet, it was his pass that led to Matt Hummels putting into his own net for the decisive goal.
The 1-0 result flattered Germany as France were superior in every aspect on the night. At the centre of it all was Pogba, who dominated the midfield all game.
His performance was a far cry from the inconsistency that he displays in a red shirt. But then one can argue that the roles he plays for France and United are different.
Long heralded as one of the best players in the world, the 28-year-old showcased just what he can do with a world-class player such as N’Golo Kante behind him. If anything, it shows up the relative lack of quality alongside him at United.
With his contract at the club expiring next year, United have a decision to make this summer. While the chances of Pogba staying cannot be ruled out, it remains to be seen if Ole Gunnar Solskjaer can coax the best out of him in a red shirt.
