Liverpool make a late punt to beat Manchester United to Jadon Sancho
According to Anfield Central (h/t Liverpool Echo), Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards is looking to trump Manchester United to the signing of Borussia Dortmund star Jadon Sancho.
The Red Devils have already agreed on personal terms with the 21-year-old, with a deal until 2026 in the works. As things stand, the only thing holding up the move is agreeing on a transfer fee with Dortmund.
Liverpool have now made a late move and have reached out to the Germans through intermediaries. The Merseysiders are ready to fork out the £90m needed but across three seasons. Their offer also has no add-ons.
Edwards’ offer trumps the £82m that Dortmund are seeking for Sancho. However, the Germans will not receive the money upfront. Whether the extra money is enough to sway their mind remains to be seen.
The player also will earn more provided he moves to United. According to the Daily Mail, Sancho will earn over £350,000-a-week if he makes the switch to Old Trafford. Given Liverpool’s wage structure, it is difficult to see them match what we can offer.
Spending the aforementioned amount would comfortably break Liverpool’s transfer record. The current amount stands at £75m they spent on Virgil van Dijk back in 2018.
A gamechanger?
Jurgen Klopp’s side have been largely dependent on their front three of Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah. The supporting cast of Xherdan Shaqiri, Takumi Minamino and Divock Origi are not at the same level and that was made clear last season.
Signing Sancho would not just be a blow to us but also give the Reds a fourth fearsome attacker to call upon. Add to it the presence of Diogo Jota, they will have a frontline exuding strength in depth.

The last thing we want is to lose out on Sancho to our arch-rivals. Under Edwards, Liverpool have enjoyed much success in the transfer market in recent years. Hopefully, they will not pull the rug from under our feet this time around.
