Kieran Trippier worried that he may be priced out of a summer switch to Manchester United
According to The Times (Subscription Required), English international Kieran Trippier is worried that Atletico Madrid will price him out of a summer move to Manchester United.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer would be well aware that he needs to strengthen his squad to challenge Manchester City for the Premier League title. While a right-back may not have been a priority, the Norwegian is intrigued by the idea of adding Trippier to his roster.
That is understandable given what the veteran right-back brings to the table. His attacking instincts offer something different from the defensive solidity that Aaron Wan-Bissaka brings to the table.
Trippier for his part is keen to move to Manchester and was already house-hunting in the city. He is keen to be closer to his family and friends but is now worried that he could be prevented from making the switch.
Atletico do not appear to be against selling the player. But they are demanding in excess of £20million to accept the offer. The Red Devils have so far been reluctant to match this valuation. The situation could however change over the coming weeks.
The 30-year-old played a key role for Atletico last season as they won the La Liga title. He was eventually named in the La Liga team of the year. Trippier was subsequently selected for the England squad for the Euros.
End of the road for Dalot?
According to The Metro, he had earlier claimed that he intends to push through a move to Old Trafford once the Euros are over. Whether he will indeed force Atletico’s hand remains to be seen.
Signing Trippier could very well spark the end of Diogo Dalot at United. The 22-year-old recently returned from a loan spell at AC Milan and has since been called up to the Portugal squad for the Euros following Joao Cancelo’s injury.

Having played for both Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur, Trippier is no stranger to the English game. This should hold him in good stead once he completes his switch to Old Trafford. Add to it his proficiency in set-pieces and we will have another player who can make a difference on the field.
