Transfer News: Manchester United reject AC Milan advances for Diogo Dalot

According to Milan News via Sempre Milan, Manchester United have rejected an approach from AC Milan to take Diogo Dalot on loan.

The Portuguese full-back spent the entirety of the 2020/21 season on loan at the San Siro. While he did not paint the town red, Dalot played his part in helping the Rossoneri secure Champions League qualification.

It would be over-exaggerated to suggest that he was a key player for the Italians last season. Despite that, it would appear he has left enough of an impression for Milan to revive their interest.

United can boost their transfer kitty through sales

According to the report, Milan’s offer was not received well by United who have since rejected it. Whether this is because the Red Devils are seeking a permanent deal rather than a loan remains to be seen.

As things stand, it is unknown if Milan’s offer also included a to-buy clause. Such a provision was absent in the deal Dalot signed with the Italians last summer. Despite being knocked back Milan do not appear to be ready to give up. They are set to re-establish contact next week and will hope to find better luck this time around.

Dalot has been called up for the Portugal squad

Dalot was called up to replace Joao Cancelo in the Portugal squad for this summer’s Euros. The defending champions begin their title defence against Hungary on Tuesday night. Just how much playing time the 22-year-old will garner remains to be seen.

A talented player capable of playing on either flank, Dalot has been besieged by injuries and poor form at United. He has so far been given a better rub of the luck this summer and will hopefully turn his fortunes around

It is no secret that United are in the market for a new right-back this summer who can compete alongside Aaron Wan-Bissaka. The Red Devils have been heavily linked with Kieran Trippier but will need to fork out €40m for his services.

A strong showing at the Euros could very well strengthen Dalot’s chances of staying on as Wan-Bissaka’s understudy. At the very least it should pique Milan’s interest a little more.
