Borussia Dortmund to offer Manchester United target Jude Bellingham a new contract
According to the German publication Bild (h/t Football.london), Borussia Dortmund are set to offer a new contract to Jude Bellingham amidst interest from Manchester United.
The 17-year-old appeared to be on his way to United last summer before signing for Dortmund instead. He has lived up to the hype in the Bundesliga and has impressed one and all with his maturity and ability. While his return of four goals and four assists in 46 matches is unspectacular, he has so far held his own at the top level.
Bellingham’s performances even saw him selected in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euros. While it is debatable if he will feature, the experience will aid his development.
With Bellingham set to turn 18 this month, Dortmund is keen to extend his deal at the club. This will be a blow to not just United but also Manchester City, Chelsea and Liverpool who are all keen on the youngster.
Bellingham signed a three-year contract when joining Dortmund last summer. This could now be extended for a further two years, strengthening Dortmund’s hold on the player.,
The Bundesliga has emerged as a trial ground for young English talent to make their name in recent seasons. Bellingham could be the next great Three Lions ace to thrive at the Westfalenstadion. For now, his participation in the Euros will be viewed with much interest.
United roped in the big guns including Sir Alex Ferguson to show the player and his family around the Aon training complex last summer. However, all our efforts came to nought and he chose Dortmund instead. What could have been?
