Club legend urges Man United to strengthen these two positions this summer

Manchester United have offered Cristiano Ronaldo a two-year deal to join the club this summer.
A return on the cards?

Gary Neville outlines what Manchester United should focus on this summer

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United legend Gary Neville has earmarked the two priorities the club should focus on in the summer transfer window.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side finished second in the Premier League last season and also made it to the Europa League final. Despite the ‘progress’ shown, it is clearly evident that reinforcements are needed for us to get over the line.

This makes this summer all the more important to our aspirations for the coming seasons. Neville reckons the priority should be to bring in a centre-back and a right-winger/forward.

Gary Neville wants United to bring in two key reinforcements

While Neville has little doubts regarding Harry Maguire, he believes the United defence, as it stands, has reached its zenith. Bringing in a new defender to star alongside the skipper should see us take the next step in our evolution.

“If you look at Dias, Van Dijk, Harry Maguire they’re kingpins in the centre of defence but they all have good partners as well, and I think United need another one in there.”

Perhaps interestingly, Neville believes Mason Greenwood could decide the other position United need to reinforce this summer. The youngster has often started on the right wing but Neville remains unconvinced if his future lies on the wing.

Mission Sancho?

Greenwood is also an excellent player when leading the line and could make a name for himself as a striker. Whichever position he chooses to take up, Neville believes the other position is the one that needs to be added to.

“If he’s a centre-forward in the long term, Manchester United need a right-winger. If Mason Greenwood is a right-winger, they need a centre-forward.”

With Edinson Cavani extending his current deal, United appear to have made Jadon Sancho a priority for this summer. The English international will address our need for an overwhelming force down the right. If we do sign Sancho, it remains to be seen if Greenwood will be deployed as a striker.
