Transfer News: AC Milan could make a move for Manchester United star Diogo Dalot

According to Milan News (h/t Sports Mole), AC Milan could revive their attempts to bring back Manchester United star Diogo Dalot for the upcoming 2021/22 campaign.

The Portuguese full-back spent the 2020/21 campaign on loan at the San Siro, playing a part in Milan’s qualification for the UEFA Champions League.  While he may not have been an automatic first choice, he made 33 appearances for the Rossoneri, scoring twice and laying on three assists. Dalot is at best a fringe player for United. While he has benefitted from more playtime in Italy, it would be farfetched to suggest that he was a key player for the Italians. Despite that, it would appear he has left enough of an impression for the Rossoneri to revive their interest.

Dalot himself has admitted that he is unsure of what the future holds for him. He however appears to have enjoyed his time in Serie A with Milan. A permanent switch to the San Siro would be the best move for all parties involved.

Capable of playing on either flank, Dalot’s versatility is a major boon for a Milan side that needs reinforcements this summer. With Champions League football next season, they will need to be prepared

No future at Old Trafford?

United are also in the market for a right-back and have earmarked Kieran Trippier as a priority signing. The very fact that they are looking for a new signing to challenge Aaron Wan-Bissaka could indicate what Ole Gunnar Solskajer thinks of Dalot.

Dalot has also attracted attention from Napoli and Everton in the past. However, with both teams having undergone managerial changes this summer, it remains to be seen if they too will enter the fray for his signature.

Dalot’s contract runs until 2023 and the chances of him making it at United appear remote. He was amongst Jose Mourinho’s final signings as Manchester United manager. Now at AS Roma, it remains to be seen if the Portuguese tactician will look to take him on again.
