West Ham United to push for Manchester United star Jesse Lingard
According to The Sun, West Ham United are set to accelerate their efforts to land Manchester United star Jesse Lingard in the summer transfer window.
The 28-year-old enjoyed an excellent loan spell with the London side last season. He averaged close to a goal contribution per game and took them to the verge of Champions League qualification. (h/t Transfermarkt)
The performances saw Lingard included in Gareth Southgate’s extended 33-man squad for the Euros. Now that he has failed to make the final cut, West Ham are seeking to make their move.
Lingard will now return to United and join up with the side when they assemble for pre-season training. The Hammers, however, remain hopeful an agreement can be reached for the player.
The Englishman’s contract expires in 2022 and it remains to be seen what United decide to do with him this summer. Despite missing out on the Euros, his stock remains high and we could fetch a reasonable fee for him this summer.
Lingard was amongst the best players in the Premier League in the latter half of the 2020/21 campaign. He won the Premier League Player of the Month and the Goal of the Month awards for April.
The player never really got going under Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and was largely a peripheral player. This is in stark contrast to the starring roles he played under both Louis van Gaal and Jose Mourinho.

The attacker has grown frustrated with Solskjaer’s distrust of him and is keen to leave in search of regular football. West Ham can certainly offer him just that.
Lingard has made 210 appearances for United, scoring 33 goals and making 20 assists. His standout moment will remain the extra time strike that won United the FA Cup in 2016 against Crustal Palace at Wembley.
