Advantage Manchester United as Valencia stumble in Mauro Arambarri race

Valencia fall behind Manchester United in the race for Mauro Arambarri

According to Mundo Deportivo via Caught Offside, Manchester United have received a boost in their pursuit of Getafe midfielder Mauro Arambarri as Valencia have fallen behind in the race.

The Red Devils are in the market for a defensive midfielder and are keeping a close watch on the 25-year-old. Arambarri has made 35 appearances for Getafe this season, scoring three goals. (h/t Transfermarkt)

The Uruguayan international has been a major player for the Getafe, helping them stave off relegation last season.

The midfielder is seen as an economical alternative to West Ham United ace Declan Rice. With a buyout clause of just €25m, Arambarri is well within our budget without having to jeopardize other plans.

One of our major rivals for the 25-year-old’s signature was Spanish giants Valencia. Los Ches however do not have the funds required, paving the way for United to seize the initiative.

As things stand, Arambarri appears to be an option rather than a priority. Whether that will change later in the window remains to be seen.

The Uruguayan’s performances for Getafe last season were certainly praiseworthy. However, impressing for the Spanish minnows is not the same as meeting the expectations ay United.

While he could certainly be a steal, United are better off looking at more established options elsewhere.

Arambarri is a rather underwhelming choice given the need for us to supplement the squad with world-class quality. His current deal with Getafe runs until 2023. The midfielder has won four caps with the Uruguayan senior side since debuting in 2020.
