Atletico Madrid reject Manchester United bid for Kieran Trippier
According to Football Insider, Spanish champions Atletico Madrid have rejected an opening bid from Manchester United for Kieran Trippier.
The Red Devils have identified the English international as someone who can compete with Aaron Wan-Bissaka for the right-back spot. An experienced player, his offensive capabilities will offer us something different in the position.
United’s initial bid amounts to £10million, a figure Atletico is unhappy with. The Red Devils will need to increase their offer in order to get a favourable reply.
Despite playing a key role in Atletico’s La Liga win last season, Trippier’s position at the Wanda Metropolitano is far from secure. The player too is keen to return to England after two years in the Spanish capital.
With two years left on his current deal, the Spaniards hold an advantage when it comes to negotiations. While it is unclear how much Atletico are seeking, it remains to be seen if United are ready to meet it.
According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), United’s director of football negotiations Matt Judge is already in discussions with Trippier’s camp over a transfer deal. Hopefully there will be good news soon.
Trippier is currently with the England squad at the Euros. Three Lions boss Gareth Southgate admitted recently that he does not see any deals for his players being completed before the tournament ends.
