Roy Keane expects Manchester United star Marcus Rashford to explode at the Euros
Speaking on Sky Bet’s ‘Micah and Roy’s Road to Wembley’ (h/t The Express), Manchester United legend Roy Keane expects English striker Marcus Rashford to explode into form at the Euros.
The 23-year-old was among four Red Devils stars included in Gareth Southgate’s squad for the tournament. Rashford goes into the tournament on the back of an impressive yet exhausting season for United.
The English ace has battled niggling injuries all season and looks set to have surgery once the tournament is over. Given his physical situation, there is every reason to be worried regarding his participation.
Rashford endured a difficult end to the season and looked properly fatigued. This however has not deterred Keane, who believes the 23-year-old will fly once the Euros kicks off.
“Sometimes you look at players who have had a quiet spell, quiet because they’ve set such high standards. Rashford and [Raheem] Sterling, for example.”
The former United skipper believes Rashford has Gareth Southgate’s blessings and will live up to his reputation on the grand stage. Whether that is true remains to be seen.
The United star was the hero on the night as England beat Romania 1-0 in their pre-tournament friendly at the weekend. While he did manage to make a difference, his performance was far from impressive.
It is fair to say that Rashford is far from his best physically at the moment. If things go south, both Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and Gareth Southgate will have questions to answer.

While heart and motivation are well and good, physical endurance cannot be ignored. Rashford has been overplayed and has not even been permitted to rest and recuperate from his injuries.
Rashford was United second top-scorer and assist-getter last season, trailing only Bruno Fernandes in both categories. It is rather telling that despite his injuries, he missed just four games last season.
