Man United to offer €12m-a-year deal to seal Raphael Varane transfer

Transfer News: Manchester United set to offer Raphael Varane €12m per year in wages

According to Defensa Central (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United are set to offer Raphael Varane a lucrative deal worth €12m per year in wages.

The Frenchman is the Red Devils’ primary defensive target in the summer transfer window. With his contract at Real Madrid expiring in 2022, a decision regarding his future will need to be made.

While a player of his calibre will attract much attention, United appear to have shown the most interest. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side are lacking a reliable defender to play alongside Harry Maguire and Varane could prove to be the gamechanger.

Real Madrid are keen to keep the Frenchman and are willing to offer him better terms. However, it would appear that United’s offer is far more enticing.

Varane currently earns over €5m annually and Real are willing to pay him €9m per season. The 28-year-old is however not happy and believes he needs to be paid on par with new signing David Alaba. The Austrian earns between €10-11m, having joined as a free agent.

United are ready to blow Real out of the water and offer Varane €12m. The amount exceeds what Alaba earns and is a very lucrative deal indeed.

According to the report, the offer gives the Red Devils a massive advantage when it comes to landing the player. As things stand the player too appears to have his mind made up to leave.

Real are not ready to let the World Cup-winning Frenchman leave on the cheap. Despite his contract situation, they are holding out for €70m in order to sell him.

Talks are yet to begin between United and Real for the player. Hopefully, he will be the one we have been looking for all these windows. A strong defence will give us a massive boost going forwards.
