Manchester United duo Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood included in top 3 most expensive players in the world
According to the end-of-season report by CIES (h/t Daily Mail), Marcus Rashford and Mason Greenwood of Manchester United have joined Phil Foden in the list of top 3 most expensive players in the world right now.
Greenwood and Rashford are placed second and third respectively in the list. Manchester City’s Phil Foden tops it as the 21-year-old midfielder has taken his game to the next level this season.
This comes as a great compliment for United considering both players came into the first-team from the youth academy. There is also another Red Devil on the list, just below Erling Haaland.
Bruno Fernandes, whose immense season at United resulted in a PFA Player of the Year nomination, has been included at 5th. He is valued at €154.3million, not too far behind Greenwood and Rashford, who are valued at €178million and €159.1million respectively.
Both the young English forwards made the provisional England squad for the 2020 UEFA European Championship. However, Greenwood backed out from the tournament with an injury.
Rashford, nevertheless, made the 26-man squad and even captained England against Romania in an international friendly ahead of the Euros. He netted the only goal of the game as the Three Lions won 1-0.
The top-20 list is very European-centric in the sense that only 2 players, Vinicius Junior and Alphonso Davies, belong to countries outside of Europe. And there are no players on the list from non-European clubs.
