Manchester United star Marcus Rashford to undergo surgery after the Euros
According to the Mirror, Manchester United star Marcus Rashford is set to go under the knife after this summer’s European Championship.
The United ace is currently with the England squad after what was a hard and gruelling season at Old Trafford. The 23-year-old battled a number of niggles and injuries to see out the campaign and it appears the chickens are now coming home to roost.
There is now a real possibility that Rashford could miss the start of the 2021/22 campaign if England go deep into the tournament.
Rashford was United second top-scorer and assist-getter last season, trailing only Bruno Fernandes in both categories. However, this came after he soldiered on despite shoulder and foot injuries.
The 23-year-old star will have surgery for at least one of the injuries – most likely his foot – as soon as England’s involvement in the tournament is over. While one can praise his mettle to commit to the Three Lions for the Euros, a little caution would have done him good.
Rashford could not fathom the thought of not representing England at the Euros and United, for their part, provided him with the necessary support to do so.
All heart, no head!
Despite his age, Rashford has made over 300 senior appearances for club and country. As we have seen over the last two seasons, it is beginning to take a toll on his body.
Ole Gunnar Solskajer should also shoulder some of the blame for what can be argued as poor management of Rashford’s playtime. It is incredible to think that despite his injuries, the English ace has missed just four matches all season.
The Norwegian’s dependence on the 23-year-old is understandable but overusing him on every given occasion smells of incompetence. The last thing we want is for Rashford to get burnt out and follow in the footsteps of Michael Owen or Robbie Fowler.

Rashford is well aware of the situation and accepts that surgery may be the best way forward. With the Premier League season set to start on August 14, the English ace needs his time to recover before he can take the field.
Not only will Rashford need a holiday after the long season but will need time for recovery from surgery and strength and conditioning fitness work.
This is, however, manageable if England makes a quick exit from the Euros, which would be unlikely, though, given they are one the tournament favourites.
