Why Manchester United winger Daniel James missed Wales training sessions
Speaking after his side’s 0-0 draw against Albania (h/t Wales Online), Wales manager Rob Page revealed that there are no injury concerns regarding Manchester United winger, Daniel James.
Wales took on Albania in a friendly ahead of UEFA Euros 2020, and James was a notable name missing from the matchday squad. This raised concerns if there was a fitness issue bothering the winger.
But as it turns out, James had a sickness bug. And Page says that there is no concerns regarding the 23-year-old ahead of their opening UEFA Euro group fixture against Switzerland.
“DJ [Daniel James] has not been too well the last couple of days. He’s just had a sickness bug. He’s back in training [on Sunday].”
No worries for James
Wales find themselves in a relatively tough Group A with Switzerland, Turkey, and Germany. And they would need their star players, such as James, Aaron Ramsey, and Gareth Bale, if they want to make it to the knockout stages.
James has not had a lot of playing time under his belt this season. The winger was used by Ole Gunnar Solskjaer in just 15 league matches, of which only 11 were starts.
But he would hope that a successful European campaign makes the Norwegian manager see him as a long-term option for the club down the wings. He already has a fair bit of experience with the Welsh national team.
Since making his international debut in November 2018, he has collected 20 international caps and managed 4 goals in that time. Wales’ opening group game takes place this Saturday against Switzerland.

James played against France in Wales’ international friendly earlier this month and would be hoping to retain his spot down the left wing for Page’s side.
