Solskjaer earmarks Jack Grealish to replace Paul Pogba at manchester United

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has earmarked Jack Grealish to potentially replace Paul Pogba, who may leave the club this summer.

The Frenchman is all set to enter the final year of his contract at Old Trafford and could be on his way out this summer. One of the best players from 2020/21, he has displayed a few excellent performances in what was ultimately an unsuccessful title charge.

In case Pogba does leave, Solskajer has his eyes on Grealish. The Aston Villa skipper is coming off an excellent season and has also been named in the England squad for the Euros.

Grealish once again impressed yesterday night in England’s friendly against Austria. His performance left such a profound effect on Roy Keane who went on to compare him to Cristiano Ronaldo.

While the comparison may be far fetched, it does showcase the impact the young Englishman is beginning to have on the field.

The fact that Solskjaer has already earmarked a replacement could hint at where Pogba’s future lies. The 28-year-old is yet to pen an extension and has attracted considerable attention from Juventus.

Solskjaer wanted to Grealish 12 months ago, only to baulk at Aston Villa’s asking price of £75million. United instead brought in Donny van de Beek from Ajax. The Netherlands international however failed to live up to expectations during his first season at the club.

A year on, Grealish’s star has only risen and the Red Devils may need to fork out more to land their man. But then we can only blame ourselves for passing up the chance last summer.

Grealish is set to be a big part of England’s European Championship campaign as Gareth Southgate targets a long-awaited major trophy. An excellent showing in the tournament will only heighten the hype surrounding the 25-year-old.
