Rio Ferdinand advocates against Manchester United signing Harry Kane
According to Goal (h/t The Metro), Manchester United legend Rio Ferdinand has urged the club to sign a centre-back over Harry Kane.
The Red Devils face a pivotal summer where they need to strengthen their squad. Having fallen short last season, it is pretty evident that reinforcements are needed.
One of the names in the fray is that of Tottenham star Harry Kane. The 27-year-old is amongst the best strikers in the game and appears keen to leave North London.
While adding Kane would be a welcome move, Ferdinand has advocated for a central defender to take precedence. Given how we have struggled to keep clean sheets in Harry Maguire’s absence, one cannot dispute Ferdinand’s assessment.
“My first position to buy would be centre-back.”
The United legend has advocated for the club to bring in the right players in three key positions. While a striker is among one of them, it isn’t necessarily at the top of the pile.
“I think they need a centre-back, a right winger and maybe even a centre-forward.”
As a player who has been part of a number of title-winning United sites, Ferdinand understands the importance of a dependable defence. Given the errors we have made at the back, it is an area that we definitely need to strengthen.

Ferdinand also praised United for their progress but believes Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side is far from the finished article. While that may be true, it will account for little unless the Norwegian leads us to silverware.
There is no better time than now for us to invest in the squad. The last thing the club can now is to stand still and see their rivals reboot themselves.
