Manchester United contact Bayer Leverkusen over Edmond Tapsoba
According to German publication Sport Bild (h/t The Metro), Manchester United have made contact with Bayer Leverkusen regarding Edmond Tapsoba.
The Burkino Faso centre-back is an excellent prospect who has improved leaps and bounds this season. Tapsoba made 38 appearances, scoring twice in what has been an excellent debut season in Germany. (h/t Transfermarkt)
This isn’t the first time we have been linked with the youngster. United sent scouts to watch him earlier in the year and believe he could be the solution to our troubles at the back. (h/t Express)
Arsenal and Chelsea are both also keen on the young defender. But the former’s chances have been greatly impacted by their lowly eighth-place finish last season.
With no European football to boot, the Gunners could in fact be a step down for Tapsoba. Chelsea, on the other hand, could prove to be a major threat if we do not act fast.
While the player is open to a move to Chelsea or United, an offer may not be forthcoming until next summer. The Blues are in the market for a defender and could revisit a move for the 22-year-old if other avenues fail.
Leverkusen sporting director Simon Rolfes remains defiant that the player will stay put at the club for another season. With the Germans demanding at least £51.8m for his services, Untied may find it difficult to recalibrate their finances.
