Manchester United scout who endorsed Bruno Fernandes signing leaves the club
According to the official site of the Portuguese side Santa Clara, Manchester United scout Joao Ferreira, who endorsed the signing of Bruno Fernandes, has now joined them on a full-time basis.
He previously was a chief scout at Orlando City, and also worked as a coach for the likes of Gabon, Casa Pia, Belenenses and Sporting. Ferreira had been at United for five years leading to his departure.
The 36-year-old is the new sports director of Santa Clara and is responsible for professional football for the Azores. Ferreira is now the third United scot to leave the club for work abroad.
Ferreira served as a first-team scout for the Red Devils. His role at Santa Clara will be the first administrative job in his career. The transfer has been mooted for a while in the Portuguese press and comes as no surprise. (h/t Sport Witness)
The Portuguese scout appears to have played a role in our recent acquisitions from the Primeira Liga. This includes the capture of Victor Lindelof from SL Benfica and Bruno Fernandes from Sporting Lisbon..
It was reported recently that two other officials had also left Old Trafford. They eventually joined Jorge Sampaoli’s and Pablo Longoria’s staff at Olympique Marseille. Whether we have made the requisite replacements remains to be seen.
It appears to be a season of change at Old Trafford. Hopefully losing out on these employees will not adversely impact the way we approach the transfer market.

United have in recent windows failed to show much acumen in the transfer window. To be fair, Ferreira did the club a massive favour by recommending Fernandes before last year.
If anything, his legacy at the club will only be enhanced the more Fernandes goes on to achieve in red.
