Manchester United handed a boost over PSG in Cristiano Ronaldo pursuit
According to The Athletic (Subscription Required), Manchester United have received a major boost in their pursuit of Juventus ace Cristiano Ronaldo.
The 36-year-old continues to rack up the numbers in Turin, despite his age. He not only won the Serie A golden boot but also the MVP for the best forward in the Italian top-flight last season.
His position at Juventus is however far from secure and he could be on the move this summer. Both United, Real Madrid and Paris Saint-Germain have been linked with a move for the footballing legend.
According to the report, a switch to the Parc des Princes appears unlikely. Whether this is the encouragement that United need in order to make their move remains to be seen.
Real too are in a state of rebuild and will first need to replace Zinedine Zidane in the managerial hot seat. Meanwhile at Juventus, returning manager Massimilano Allegri doesn’t appear too chuffed about losing the Portuguese superstar.
An unfeasible transfer
There are multiple reasons why PSG aren’t in the race to land Ronaldo. The collapse of France’s lucrative TV rights deal has harmed their finances and they are in no position to bring in top names this summer.
The club for now will focus their attentions to keep hold of their crown jewels in Neymar and Kylian Mbappe. Those contracts would take up much of PSG’s budget, leaving no room for a move for another superstar.
Moreover, the relationship between Ronaldo’s agent and PSG president Nasser Al-Khelaifi isn’t the best, creating another roadblock.

A major obstacle will however be Ronaldo’s massive wages. He earns an incredible £28 million per year at Juventus and may need to take a wage cut to return to Old Trafford.
