Raphael Varane rejects interest from Manchester United in favour of PSG

According to TodoFichajes (h/t FourFourTwo), Manchester United have been dealt a huge blow in their efforts to land Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane.

The 28-year-old is one of the vest defenders in the world and is at 28 in his prime. With just a year to go on his current deal, he is said to be seeking a new challenge away from Real.

United’s hunt for a dependable centre-back is no secret and Varane was amongst the top names on the wishlist. Unfortunately, it would appear that he is keen to return to his homeland with Paris Saint-Germain.

The French giants have already contacted the player and made aware their intentions of taking him to the Parc des Princes. Despite United making overtures, it would appear the player has made up his mind.

This represents a blow for United who will now have to look elsewhere to fill their requirements. Others on our wishlist include Pau Torres and Jules Kounde.

While both players are younger and have a promising career ahead of them, they lack the experience and know-how that Varane would have brought to Old Trafford.

Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a summer war chest of £150m to spend and has already earmarked Jadon Sancho as a priority purchase. While there will be enough in the tank for a defender, it remains to be seen if that man will be Varane.

There is still a long way to go before the summer window shuts and United could still work their magic.

United fans too are keen to see Varane don the red of Manchester. They made their feelings clear yesterday after Paul Pogba put up a picture of himself alongside the Real ace.

One of the finest defenders in world football, Varane has so far made 360 appearances for Los Blancos. He was also a part of the French team that won the 2018 FIFA World Cup.
