Manchester United manager Solskjaer nominated for PL Manager of the Year award
According to The Daily Mail, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has been nominated for the Premier League Manager of the Year award.
The Norwegian lead the Red Devils to an unexpected second-place finish this season. Although he had the opportunity to end the season on a high, the Red Devils fell flat in the Europa League final against Villarreal.
While it could have been better, there are some signs of ‘progress’. The Premier League certainly believe Solskjaer is worthy of being nominated for the end of the season award.
Others in the fray include Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola, Leeds United’s Marcelo Bielsa, West Ham United’s David Moyes, and Leicester City’s Brendan Rodgers.
It is quite difficult to see Solskjaer win the award despite United’s overachievement in the league. Guardiola led City to another title while Bielsa and Moyes have vastly exceeded expectations.
Rodgers once again suffered Champions League qualification heartbreak on the final day but is steadily improving a promising Leicester side. Moreover, he also led the Foxes to their first-ever FA Cup triumph.
Of the five names in the fray, only Guardiola has landed himself a Premier League Manager of the Month award this season. The Catalan achieved the feat twice, in January and February 2021.
Solskjaer, for all his progress, has to be considered an outsider for the award. We will be surprised if he manages to pull it off.
