Transfer News: Real Madrid ready to sell Manchester United target Raphael Varane
According to ABC (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United have been handed a major boost in their pursuit of French international Raphael Varane.
The Frenchman is one of the best defenders in world football and at 28, he is in his prime. With his contract at Real Madrid set to expire next year, a decision has to be made this summer.
It is a season of change at the Santiago Bernabeu. Zinedine Zidane has left the club. With a new manager yet to be appointed, it remains to be seen whether Varane figures in their plans.
Los Blancos have already secured the signing of David Alaba. With this new Galactico in town, they appear to be open to part ways with Varane.
The Spaniards are keen to cash in on the French World Cup winner and pave the way for United to make their move. It was reported earlier that Real may be willing to do business for £60m.
Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has a summer war chest of £150m to spend and has already earmarked Jadon Sancho as a priority purchase. Whether this means the Red Devils will accept Real’s valuation of Varane is debatable.
There is a widespread belief at the club at United that Varane fits the profile of the player the club is looking for. Having won it all at Real Madrid, the Frenchman is in need of a new challenge.
United are currently rebuilding their team and Varane would be an excellent addition to Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side.
