Transfer News: Saul Niguez keen to push through a move to Manchester United

According to the Mirror (h/t Express), Atletico Madrid midfielder Saul Niguez is all set to force through a transfer to Manchester United this summer.

The 26-year-old has been a key part of Diego Simeone’s stellar Atletico side the past few years. His role in the side has somewhat diminished this season, making him seek a new challenge elsewhere.

He made 41 appearances in all competitions as they won the La Liga title this season. Of his 33 appearances in La Liga, only 22 have come as a starter.

Niguez’s stand is good news for United who are keen to strengthen their midfield this season. We will, however, face competition from both Juventus and Paris Saint-Germain.

United have also been linked with a move for Declan Rice. Niguez is seen as an alternative for the Hammers star who will cost upwards of £100m.

Niguez has a buyout clause of around £60m. However, Atletico will listen to offers closer to the £40m mark – a marked difference to what Rice would cost us.

Atletico’s director-general Miguel Angel Gil has already admitted that Niguez can leave the club this summer. The Spaniards will need to sell before they can buy this summer and Niguez could be one of the first to leave.

Despite his willingness to move to Old Trafford, Niguez is not seen as a top priority. Ole Gunnar Solskjaer is keen to bring in Jadon Sancho and a central defender before they turn their attentions elsewhere.

This is not the first time that we have been linked with the player. The Red Devils kept a keen eye on the Spaniard during David Moyes’ time in charge. Unfortunately, it wasn’t to be. Seven years on, we might finally land out man or pass on him for a second time.
