Manchester United star Diogo Dalot unsure of AC Milan return

According to Gazzetta Dello Sport (h/t Sport Witness), Manchester United star Diogo Dalot has admitted that he unsure of what the future holds for him, with his loan spell at AC Milan ending.

The 22-year-old spent the 2020/21 season on loan at AC Milan. While he may not have been an automatic first choice, he made 33 appearances for the Rossoneri, scoring twice and laying on three assists. (h/t Transfermarkt)

Dalot never quite established himself as a regular starter for United. While he has benefitted from more playtime at the San Siro, it would be farfetched to say that he was a key player for the Italians.

With the season now over, United have a decision to make regarding the 22-year-old’s future. Milan is yet to make a decision on their interest in the player.

Dalot himself has admitted that he is unsure of what the future holds for him. He enjoyed his time in Italy and believes he improved his tactical understanding of the game.

“I feel I have improved a lot tactically.”

According to an earlier report, United will be willing to part ways with the youngster for around £13m. While it does represent a loss on what we paid for him, his performances for United havem’t really got any tails wagging.

Diogo Dalot is likely to return to Manchester United once his loan spell at AC Milan ends.
Dalot has been a peripheral player at United

“It was a real pleasure to play for Milan, but now I’m thinking about the European Championship, and I really don’t know what will happen.”

Capable of playing on either flank, Dalot’s versatility is a major boon for a Milan side that needs reinforcements this summer. With Champions League football next season, they will need to be prepared.

While a move to the San Siro is doubtful, he might return to Italy with AS Roma. New manager Jose Mourinho may choose to sign the player for the second time in his career, this time in the Italian capital.

The Red Devils are in the market for a backup right-back this summer. Capable of playing on either flank, Dalot has the skill set to be that man.

Dalot’s contract runs until 2023 and the chances of him making it at United appear remote. Whether his fuure lies in Italy or elsewhere remains to be seen.
