Manchester United striker Edinson Cavani wins Premier League Goal of the Month

Edinson Cavani has been awarded the Premier League Goal of the Month for May with his goal for Manchester United against Fulham (h/t Premier League).  The Uruguayan’s 40-yard chip at Old Trafford was surely a thing of beauty and rightly deserved the award.

Manchester United had a decent season in the league. Given the disastrous start they had, hardly one would have expected them to be leading the league in January and then finishing second to Manchester City. There were a lot of positives to be taken from the season as a whole.

It seemed providence that Cavani was waiting to score one of his best goals in a United shirt in front of fans. 10,000 fans were allowed in the last rounds of the league as the Stretford End got to witness their hero scoring for the first time.

Cavani scored a beautiful chip over Areola.

Yes, the goal was a bit controversial given Cavani was initially offside when De Gea played his long pass. However, it looked like Fernandes had made a cheeky flick on the way through which played the striker onside.

El Matador saw Alphonse Areola off his line and did not need a second invitation to chip one in from 40 yards out.

Cavani became the second United player to bag this award this season. Fernandes did the same back in February with his strike against Everton. Fans will no doubt be hoping to see more such goals from their No. 7 in the coming season.
