Solskjaer pleased with Manchester United who end the season unbeaten away from home
Speaking to MUTV (h/t Manchester Evening News), Manchester United manager, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has given his two cents regarding his team’s unbeaten away run in the league this season.
The Red Devils’ 2-1 win against Wolverhampton Wanderers earlier today preserved an unbeaten run that stretches all the way back to Anfield in January 2020.
United have now ended the season without a defeat on the road in the Premier League. This puts them in an illustrious company that includes just two other teams – Preston North End and Arsenal.
Preston was the first team to achieve that record, all the way back in 1888/89 when they went unbeaten. Arsenal’s double winners later equalled the feat in 2001/02 before repeating it as part of the Invincibles in 2003/04.
United have won 12 games while drawing seven away from Old Trafford this season. Interestingly this outstrips what Arsenal’s invincibles managed away from Highbury back in 2003/04.
Solskjaer joked that it was about time that United too made the list. Considering the team he put out tonight, it is fair to say that it was a job well done.
“It was about time we did! We haven’t done it before, so what an achievement by all the players, they have been excellent.”
Getting the job done!
With the Europa League final coming up, Solskjaer had little choice regarding the team he put out earlier tonight. While it was far from easy sailing, they got the job done.
“I knew that we did put this record on the line by making all the changes, but we had to. One because we believed in these players, and two because the other players have played so much this season and needed an energy boost for Wednesday.”
Anthony Elanga and Juan Mata were the scorers on the night while Nelson Semedo grabbed the consolation for Wolves.

While the record is well and good, unlike Preston and Arsenal, United remain the only side in the vaunted company not to win the title. Securing the Europa League title in the coming week would, however, do nicely indeed.
