Ole Gunnar Solskjaer does not expect many outgoings at Manchester United this summer

According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has admitted that there will not be too many players leaving the club this summer.

Having finished second this season, the Red Devils are keen to kick on and improve next season. United want to bring in at least three players, with the likes of Raphael Varane, Pau Torres, Declan Rice, Jadon Sancho, and Harry Kane all on our radar.

As things stand, United have 36 players on their first-team roster. A fairly large number, one would assume it will be cut short once more additions are made. According to Solskjaer, it is going to be far from an exodus.

The first-team scene will only be crowded once the likes of Jesse Lingard, Diogo Dalot, Andreas Pereira, and James Garner return from loan spells.

Lingard and Paul Pogba are also out of contract next year, while Dalot, Pereira and Phil Jones appear surplus to requirements. The club clearly has a number of key decisions to make this summer.

Solskjaer admits that the process is already underway ahead of the summer window.

“That’s an ongoing process, looking at the squad, players who are going to stay, players who might be leaving.”

Decisions to make

Perhaps curiously, Jesse Lingard has emerged as one of our most sellable assets in recent months. The 28-year-old’s loan spell at West Ham United has been nothing short of exemplary.

His stock has never been higher and United will do well to cash in. The same can be said of a lesser extent to Dalot, who has impressed at AC Milan.

“We’ve had a few players on loan that might come back in, there is interest in a few others, maybe going out.”

Pereira has disappointed and could leave the club. Phil Jones has not played for us this season and United will do well to cut him from the playing squad.
