Transfer News: David Moyes retains hopes of signing Manchester United loanee Jesse Lingard

According to The Daily Mail, former Manchester United boss David Moyes has not given up on signing Jesse Lingard in the upcoming summer transfer window.

The 28-year-old, a peripheral player at Old Trafford has been one of West ham United’s driving forces since the turn of the year. With nine goals and five assists in just 15 games, he is making the most of moving to London on loan in January.

Lingard’s form has also seen West Ham push hard for an unlikely Champions League spot. While they will now miss out, qualification to Europe is still on the agenda.

One cannot undermine the difference Lingard has made for the Hammers. Moyes certainly thinks so and hopes United will rule in his favour when it comes to deciding the player’s future.

“I couldn’t say any more than I’m hopeful Jesse might want to come here, that’s up to Manchester United, but he’s been a positive signing.”

United for their part do not appear to be averse to letting Lingard leave. The Englishman does not feature in Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s plans and has only a year to go on his current deal. (h/t The Express)

United also appear to be willing to offer Lingard in part exchange to get their summer signings. The Red Devils have been reported to use him for deals for Jadon Sancho and Harry Kane.

A number of top teams such as Paris Saint-Germain, Real Madrid and Inter Milan are all keeping tabs on Lingard. It is fair to say that West Ham is not the most glamourous option out there.

Lingard’s stock has never been higher and United will do well to cash in. Where exactly he will end up remains to be seen. The attacker’s form has also seen him earn a call-up to the England squad. A good performance at the Euros will only further enhance his reputation.

Lingard’s performances have seen him win both the Premier League Player of the Month and the Goal of the Month awards for April.

The 28-year-old has made 210 appearances for United, scoring 33 goals and making 20 assists. His extra-time strike that won United the FA Cup in 2016 at Wembley will live long in memory.
