Manchester United employees sent anti Glazers email as fans step up protests

According to The Guardian, Manchester United fans are upping the ante in their protests against the Glazers. This has led to an email speaking against the Americans being sent to the club’s staff.

Tensions between fans and the owners have boiled over in recent weeks following the club’s ill-fated decision to participate in the European Super League.

Supporters barricaded Carrington before a couple of hundred of them stormed Old Trafford ahead of the clash against Liverpool. Despite certain assurances from Joel Glazer, the fans appear to be undaunted.

With the email, it would appear that the fans are now set to take the fight to the employees on the club’s payroll. The email, entitled NEWSLETTER #1 has gone to numerous United employees.

Its approach appears to be to give them a different perspective from the one they get from within the club. It promises to give them a wider view of the issues at large.

“The briefings you receive [internally] are all very interesting but we’ll provide periodic updates giving a wider view.”

The email refers to co-owners Joel and Avram Glazer in unflattering terms and touches upon the major sources of frustration within the supporters’ ranks. This includes the club debt, the lack of investment in the first-team and the state of Old Trafford.

The author went on to suggest that there would be further communications in the future and signed off hinting at just such. The move follows the targeting of United’s commercial partners via social media and protests outside Old Trafford.

It was reported earlier that Joel Glazer will attend the fans forum on June 4. It is the first time that the Americans will be in attendance for such a meeting.

Whether this is a concentrated effort to regain trust or just a PR exercise remains to be seen.
