Manchester United could opt against sending Teden Mengi on loan to Derby County
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United could opt against sending Teden Mengi back on loan to Derby County.
The youngster joined the Rams on loan in January before returning prematurely in April after sustaining a season-ending surgery. In the end, he made just nine first-team appearances for the Championship side.
Managed by United legend Wayne Rooney, Mengi has left a solid impression during his brief stint at Pride Park. He is keen to keep the player on for another season and has confirmed that Derby does have the option to do just that. (h/t The Metro)
Solskjaer is keen to bring the youngster into the first-team fold ahead of next season. They could be sent out on loan depending on the squad depth the Norwegian has at his disposal.
However, it would appear that the club’s preference is to loan him to a Premier League side. With Derby having just escaped relegation to the third tier, the chances of them securing Mengi again seem remote.
Mengi’s contract at United runs until 2024. One of the club’s top young players, it remains to be seen if he will make the cut at Old Trafford.
Despite the Red Devils’ problems at the back, Mengi is not the solution. He still has much to do before he can establish himself at the top level. Another loan spell, this time to a top-flight side, will aid him greatly in his development.

The Red Devils face a crucial summer window and will need to strengthen their team heading into the new season. Bringing in new players will certainly limit the game time that youngsters at the club receive.
It is imperative that we permit those in need of regular game time to get it elsewhere if not at Old Trafford.
