Transfer News: Man United bid for £26m-rated La Liga star ‘imminent’

Manchester United to bid for Getafe midfielder Mauro Arambarri in the next few days

According to Spanish publication Traspasos (h/t The Mirror), Manchester United will be making a bid for Getafe star Mauro Arambarri in the next few days.

The Red Devils are in the market for a defensive midfielder and are keeping a close watch on the 25-year-old. Arambarri has made 35 appearances for Getafe this season, scoring three goals. (h/t Transfermarkt)

The Uruguayan has been a major player for the Spaniards, helping them stave off relegation. He might just be ready to take the next step in his career.

Manchester United to bid for Getafe midfielder Mauro Armbarri in the next few days

Valued at around £26m, Arambarri is a budger player who could do the job for us. With United needed to strengthen a number of positions, going for someone like the Uruguayan is understandable.

Nemanja Matic is not getting any younger while Fred lacks the mobility or ability to contribute to the counterattack. Whether Arambarri is a replacement for either of them or just a stop-gap remains to be seen.

The Red Devils will however have to contend with competition from Atletico Madrid. The La Liga leaders are also keeping tabs on the midfielder who has played with Edinson Cavani at the international level. (h/t Metro)

Arambarri is a full international for Uruguay

Arambarri is a rather underwhelming choice given the need for us to supplement the squad with world-class quality. While the 25-year-old may develop into a top player in the future, he has a long road ahead of him.

Arambarri’s current deal with Getafe runs until 2023. The midfielder has won four caps with the Uruguayan senior side since debuting in 2020.
