Manchester United star Mason Greenwood hopes to make the England squad for the Euros

According to The Mirror, Manchester United star Mason Greenwood is hoping to make the cut for Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the Euros.

The Three Lions squad will be announced in the coming days and it remains to be seen if the 19-year-old will make the cut. Greenwood has so far won just a solitary cap for England at the senior level.

Having made it to the semi-finals of the World Cup in 2018, the Three Lions will be hoping to do better this time around. England were knocked out of the Euros in 2016 by minnows Iceland in the first knockout stage.

“What happens, happens. I have not really been thinking about it too much.”

While he would like to be a part of the squad, Greenwood is not overtly thinking about it at the moment. The youngster’s focus remains on the Europa League final and his first opportunity to grab a winner’s medal.

“It would be nice to go to the Euros but I just want to be fully focused on United for these two games and the Europa League final.”

Greenwood has been in fine form for United of late and has found himself constantly amongst the goals. He recently overtook Wayne Rooney as the highest-scoring teenager for the club in the Premier League.

Greenwood has upped his game of late

Greenwood made his debut for England earlier in the season against Iceland. However, he was sent home along with Phil Foden after breaching Covid protocols in the England team hotel.

The youngster has since avoided getting in the news for all the wrong reasons and has instead done his talking on the field. Unfortunately, no return to the international fold has been forthcoming so far.

At 19, Greenwood has a long way to go in his career. Even if he does fail to make the squad, he will have plenty of opportunities to do so in the future. He will hopefully take any decision in his stride and continue to develop as he has done so far.
