Manchester United hold exploratory talks with Real Madrid star Raphael Varane

According to transfer news from MEN, Manchester United are holding ‘exploratory’ talks with Real Madrid star Raphael Varane.

However, the Red Devils are not the only ones interested. Liverpool are in the fray as well. The Frenchman’s contract expires in one season and this summer is the right opportunity for potential suitors to seize the initiative.

Manchester United are expected to go all out for a central defender this summer. The report claims that Manchester United’s director of negotiations is trying to sign Raphael Varane.

Real Madrid are keen on cashing in on the Frenchman this summer and want to avoid losing him for free. He is valued at around £60million.

Varane was a subject of interest from Sir Alex Ferguson around 10 years ago. But he has now become a world-class star at Real Madrid and is arguably at his peak right now. Signing Varane would be a massive statement by Manchester United indeed.

Harry Maguire has lacked a dependable partner and Varane would be a huge signing. A fee of £60m is huge for a player set to enter the final year of his contract but signing Varane would absolutely solidify our centre-back department.

If anything, Varane has shown numerous times over the years that he is a world-class defender. He has won multiple titles at Real Madrid and is a World Cup winner with France. Top quality doesn’t come for cheap.

We need a central defender. If the opportunity is there to sign a top player like Raphael Varane, Manchester United would be wise to take it. However, it remains to be seen what we decide to do. Liverpool are in the race too and we’ve to act quickly.
