Tom Heaton agrees to join Manchester United from Aston Villa
According to transfer news from Football Insider, Manchester United target Tom Heaton has rejected a contract offer from Aston Villa. He has also verbaly agreed to join Manchester United.
The report claims that United are lining up Heaton as third-choice keeper behind Dean Henderson and David de Gea.

Sergio Romero is completely out of the picture while Lee Grant has not been offered a new deal by the club yet. Hence, it sounds quite logical for United to pursue a third-choice goalkeeper.
Tom Heaton was once at Manchester United but failed to make it to the first-team. He was eventually let go. Now, it looks like we are returning for the veteran Englishman.
From Tom Heaton’s perspective, this is probably the last lucrative contract he could get in his career given he is 35 years old already. The report also claims United’s offer is better than Aston Villa’s, and hence Heaton’s decision to join Old Trafford.

A 3-cap English international, it remains to be seen if Heaton does indeed join us. A verbal agreement means the deal is most likely to go through. Given this is a free transfer, there should be no problems in us completing a deal.
United’s goalkeeping situation has been a headache for Solskjaer. Dean Henderson and David de Gea have been fighting it out for a while now. However, the former seems to have nailed down his place in the starting XI.

It doesn’t make sense for Man United to pay huge wages to De Gea only for him to grace the benches. Hence, it is also possible that United could sign Heaton as a second-choice rather than a third-choice.
However, only time will tell how the club decides to handle what can only be termed as a healthy situation.
