Transfer News: West Ham keeping tabs on two senior Man United stars

Matic was signed from Chelsea in 2017

West Ham United keeping tabs on Manchester United duo Nemanja Matic and Phil Jones

According to Eurosport, West Ham United are keeping a keen eye on Manchester United duo Phil Jones and Nemanja Matic.

While the former has failed to reach his potential due to injuries, the latter is now reinventing himself as a backup player. It is debatable if either of them has a long-term future at Old Trafford.

David Moyes could lead West Ham into Europe this season and is busy looking at targets ahead of the new campaign. It remains to be seen if he will make a push to loan the United duo.

West Ham are meanwhile expected to land Jesse Lingard who has impressed on loan in London this season. With nine goals and four assists in just 13 games, he has been a revelation for the Hammers. (h/t Transfermarkt)

One major hurdle in them signing the 28-year-old is his wage demands. Both Jones and Matic are also set to demand around £120,000-a-week. This will place them amongst the top earners at West Ham.

Jones is currently working hard to return to action after a spate of injuries. Despite being added to United’s Premier League and Europa League squads earlier in the year, he is yet to feature this season.

Matic meanwhile has proven himself valuable as a backup midfielder. The Serbian’s experience and guile have often helped us out of sticky situations when needed.

While he may not be the force he once was, he still has something to offer. At 32, he is not a long-term solution and if a good offer comes in, United will do well to listen.

The summer transfer window could prove pivotal for United. Selling off their fringe players could boost the transfer kitty as we look to go one further and win the Premier League next season.

With John Murtough and Darren Fletcher at the wheel, it remains to be seen if we will fare better than how we have done in recent times.
