Edinson Cavani reveals why he chose to pen fresh terms at Manchester United

Speaking to the club’s official site, Edinson Cavani has revealed the motivations behind penning a new contract with Manchester United.

The 34-year-old has been a revelation since joining the club on a free transfer last summer. He has stepped up his performances of late and continues to score in the absence of the injured Anthony Martial.

Cavani is currently the club’s third top-scorer this season. By committing himself to another season at Old Trafford, the Uruguayan has given the club’s frontline a massive boost.

“I am very excited and keen to stay for another season, to give it my best, to help the club on the field as I can and hopefully bring some happiness and joy to the supporters.”

The veteran goes on to admit that the club and the people behind it played a huge role in his decision. Cavani has built up an excellent rapport with his players and it would appear it extends to others off the pitch as well.

“I would say it is exactly what this club represents, what Manchester United represents as an entity, as an organisation.”

Having found support from various quarters since joining us last summer, Cavani is now eager to repay that backing. He admits to having formed a bond with those at the club and is keen to continue experiencing it.

“As the days, weeks and months pass by, you do get to develop a huge affection for the club and I think, on a human level, it creates a bond with yourself, your team-mates and everybody who is part of the club, and you start to feel that.”

Teacher’s pet?

Cavani’s decision will have gone down well with Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, who was keen to see the player stay. In fact, the Uruguayan has attributed his good relationship with the manager as a reason behind his decision.

The players too did their part by constantly urging the striker to stay put. One of course cannot blame him for living up to his teammates’ wishes.

A family man through and through, Cavani admits his decision to stay put wasn’t easy given his family are in South America. While he is keen to return, he admits that it would be injustice to ignore the love he has received in Manchester.

It is becoming of a man who has constantly produced on the pitch and lived up to expectations levied on him. It would appear that Cavani now has another season to write his name into the United folklore.
