Jamie Carragher: Manchester United are just one player away from Premier League glory

Speaking on Sky Sports (h/t The Express), Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher believes Manchester United are just one player short of achieving Premier League success.

The Red Devils are currently on course to finish second this season. Hopes were raised when United briefly went top earlier this year. However, an injury to Paul Pogba saw us drop off and concede space to arch-rivals Manchester City.

Carragher believes bringing in the right player could see them close that gap next season. If he is to be believed, reinforcement has to be made in the form of an elite striker.

While Carragher admits his adoration of Cavani, he believes the Uruguayan is far from his best. At 34, he remains a potent force but may not be able to lead the line over the course of a season.

 “I don’t think they’ll have the centre-forward and I absolutely love Cavani.”

The Uruguayan has proven himself to be a shrewd purchase. Arriving on a free, he has stepped up massively in the last few weeks as United look to end the season well.

“I’ve said consistently that Manchester United need a 25-year-old Cavani.”

Carragher also had a word of caution for United in their pursuit of Jadon Sancho. He believes signing the Englishman will impact the growth of Mason Greenwood.

The 19-year-old has also stepped up in recent weeks and rediscovered his goalscoring touch. One of our best young players, it remains to be seen what the future holds for him.

Will signing Sancho spell doom for Greenwood?

United for their part appear keen to land Sancho and have been touted to make a move for him before the Euros. Whether it does come to pass and what impact it will have on Greenwood remains to be seen.
