Manchester United make security arrangements ahead of Leicester City and Liverpool visits
According to Manchester Evening News, Manchester United will take advice from both the police and security before deciding on their pre-match arrangements for the return to Old Trafford later this week.
This comes after last Sunday’s protests that saw United fans storm into Old Trafford. The breach of security saw the game against Liverpool postponed. The rearranged fixture will now be played on 13 May.
It will be the second of a double-header at home that will also see us welcome Leicester City on 11 May. Given last weekend’s events, it’s fair to say that the club is keen to prevent a repeat.
It will not just be the security at Old Trafford that will be reviewed. Those in place at Lowry Hotel will be also be scrutinized. United players make use of the facility leading up to home games.
Located in the city centre, it is a 20-minute drive from Old Trafford. The club has recently been contacted by other hotels in the area, offering their services, United will now seek advice from both the Greater Manchester police and their own security staff.
A distraction?
United boss Ole Gunnar Solskjaer also expressed his irritation at the off-field events hampering his team’s performances. He is hoping for all shenanigans that impact his side’s preparation to be kept to a minimum.
“The off-field stuff hopefully we’ll keep it as normal as possible.”
The rearrangement of the Liverpool fixture has in fact put the team in a difficult spot. We now face three games in five days, grossly testing Solskjaer’s squad management skills.
Hopefully, it will not be a problem and we can hope to build momentum that can carry us until the end of the season.

United’s efforts are understandable given public sentiment. The organizers of Sunday’s protest have once again set their sights on a protest preceding the clash against Liverpool on the 13th.
Fans have been urged to bring banners, scarves and once again turn up and show their commitment to the cause. Hopefully, fringe elements will not steal the thunder once again.
