Ole Gunnar Solskjaer hints at Anthony Martial return for Manchester United
According to Express, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has hinted that Anthony Martial could return to action for Manchester United this season. A knee injury has kept the striker out for a while but the boss is hopeful that Martial will return ahead of the Europa League final.
Martial enjoyed his best campaign in a United jersey last season. He has however failed to carry it forward. His seven goals and eight assists in 36 appearances is a far cry from the chart-topping performances he put up last season.
The Frenchman has not featured for the Red Devils since their 3-1 FA Cup defeat at the hands of Leicester City in March. He then went away with the French national team where he picked up the injury.
United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer later admitted that the player is a doubt for the remainder of the season. However, it would appear that we might get to see him in action sooner than expected.
Despite returning to training, Martial is unlikely to take the field in the remaining few league games. While he is not ready to take the field, it is good to see him make progress. Nonetheless, Solskjaer provided an encouraging update that hints at his possible return to action this season.
“Sometimes the player you leave out can come onto the pitch and win you a final. That’s no problem; I’d rather have that than have not enough. From personal experience, it is hard to not play in finals. But when you come on, you do your bit.
I think Mason has done it so many times for us, and Edinson has done it so many times. Marcus has done it so many times – he came on against Leipzig and scored three. Hopefully we will get Anthony fit as well.”
