Mason Greenwood overtakes Wayne Rooney as a top teenage goalscorer for Manchester United
Mason Greenwood made a spectacular finish against Aston Villa to not only give Manchester United the lead but also write his name into history books.
The goal was the Englishman’s 16th strike in the top flight, eclipsing the club record for most goals as a teenager held by Wayne Rooney.
It was just rewards for the youngster who was on top form on the afternoon. Greenwood has had a difficult season but has come into his own the last few weeks.
With both him and Cavani going through a purple patch, the odds of United ending the season on a high look good.
Rooney is one of the finest players to not just play for United but grace the Premier League. The club’s record goalscorer, Greenwood still has a long way to equal the Derby County manager’s legacy at the club.
But for now, he has taken his first steps into greatness and has hopefully given us a sign of things to come. Bigger things await the talented 19-year-old.
