Solskjaer and staff unhappy with Manchester United legend Gary Neville over his anti-Glazer outbursts
According to The Daily Mail, Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and his staff are unsettled given the stance that Gary Neville has taken against the Glazers.
The Americans are no saints and have never enjoyed the fans’ backing since taking over the reins in 2005. Things have only escalated of late since their ill-advised move to commit to the European Super League.
Among their most outspoken critics is former United skipper Gary Neville, who now works for Sky Sports. He has left no stone unturned in his criticism of not just United but also the other big six clubs.
While Neville’s impassioned approach will appeal to fans, the same cannot be said of others. In fact, there are concerns that his rhetoric helped fuel last Sunday’s unsavoury events at Old Trafford.
Former Crystal Palace chairman Simon Jordan went as far as to accuse Neville of instigating a lynch mob. In a sense, the sentiment is also shared by Solskjaer and his staff.
While they are against the club’s participation in the ESL, postponing the Liverpool fixture last week does not sit well with them. They believe Neville should tone down his criticism to prevent further unrest.
“When it becomes a police matter that’s not nice and it has not been helped by certain individuals.”
Battle lines being drawn?
It was revealed this week that Neville has created a WhatsApp group of pundits and broadcasters to maintain a united front against any breakaway plans. It is fair to say that the United legend has his priorities right.
Solskjaer even went as far as to admit that the Glazers had offered him an apology for taking the club into the Super League. Given how little remorse we have seen from Avram Grant of late, it is fair to say that Solskjaer’s comments are difficult to believe.
“I’ve been communicating with the owners and I’ve got an apology, personally.”
While the United boss is within his rights to demand that focus remains on the field, there are much more important issues at hand here. Hopefully, when the dust settles, Solskjaer will find himself on the right side.

The fixture against Liverpool will now be played on 13th May. It throws up a busy five days where we play Aston Villa away and Leicester City at home. Whether this will be met with more protests from supporters and to what extent remains to be seen.
