Jamie Carragher believes Manchester United can do better than Anthony Martial
Speaking to the Sky Sports Podcast (h/t Mirror), Liverpool legend, Jamie Carragher believes Manchester United will do better if they upgraded on Anthony Martial as their ace striker.
The French international is currently out injured and could be in doubt to feature for the remainder of the season. Thankfully, Edinson Cavani’s form has not seen us miss Martial so much.
The 25-year-old came into the current campaign looking to build upon his excellent season last time around. It appears to be a faux pas as Martial struggled to make an impact this time around.
With just seven goals and eight assists in 36 appearances, Martial’s numbers are far off what is expected from the club’s ace striker. With the team looking to improve upon this season’s performances, bringing in a new striker could be on the agenda.
“They need a young Cavani, basically. That’s what the club needs.”
Carragher believes the team needs a young Cavani. The older version has not done too shabbily and is the club’s third top-scorer this season. While Martial is certainly a good player, Carragher believes the Red Devils will struggle to succeed with him leading the frontline.
“He’s a good player, but I don’t think he’s a great player who’ll take them to a Premier League or Champions League title.”
The Other end!
The Liverpool legend, however, believes the Red Devils also need another man at the back. United have struggled to bring in a partner for skipper Harry Maguire in defence. They will do well to accomplish that this summer.
“So two players at both ends of the pitch – a centre-back and a centre forward – and then I don’t think they’re that far away.”
Whether the club will land these players to help Ole Gunnar Solskjaer remaiins to be seen.

The Red Devils have shown much promise this season. It would be criminal not to make use of the transfer window to strengthen ourselves. Whether the club will do what it takes them to the next level remains to be seen.
