Manchester United boss Solskjaer aims a dig at Liverpool

According to the Express, Manchester United boss, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer has aimed a dig at Liverpool ahead of the clash at Old Trafford later tonight.

The Red Devils take on their arch-rivals in a game that is usually amongst the most fiercely contested in the Premier League. Unlike last season, however, United are the team in the ascendency while the Merseysiders have had a campaign to forget.

The Red Devils retain little to no hope in the title race but can cement the second spot with a win tonight. It will represent a remarkable improvement for a team that scraped into the top four on the final day last season.

Despite our rivalry with Liverpool, Solskjaer’s focus remains on closing the gap with Manchester City at the Premier League summit. Fairly so, the United boss is not too concerned with the teams below us in the table.

“You know, we aren’t looking back we’re looking forward and looking up to challenge Man City even more.”

United briefly occupied the top spot earlier this year. However, Paul Pogba’s injury saw us drop up and City took full advantage of it. They may have won this round, but Solskjaer intends to close the gap on them in the future.

“I don’t think we have challenged them enough this season so that’s our aim – to go one step further and challenge a lot more than we have done this season.”

The bitter truth!

The Norwegian, however, has praised Liverpool for their high level of performance over the past few seasons.

While they may be our rivals, there is no denying the fact that they were one of the most-watched teams in their prime. Injuries have cut short their season and Solskjaer is well aware of it.

“They have been great the last few years, a very good team but for one reason or another this season they have got less points.”

It is fair to say that United go into the game as favourites. We will hopefully go on and secure all three points tonight.
