Paulo Fonseca full of praise for Manchester United stars Bruno Fernandes and Marcus Rashford
Speaking to ESPN (h/t The Daily Mail), AS Roma manager Paulo Fonseca has identified Marcus Rashford and Bruno Fernandes as the two major threats for Manchester United.
Both clubs take on each other in the first leg of their Europa League semifinals later tonight. It promises to be an interesting clash between two teams looking to end their barren run without trophies.
Roma have been far from their best in Serie A this season. Overcoming United will not just take them closer to the Europa League title but also qualification for next season’s Champions League.
Unlike our Italian opponents, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s side go into the game in good form. While they may have faltered at the weekend against Leeds United, the Red Devils look on course to finish second in the league.
“I think Rashford is an amazing, amazing player. He’s having a great, great season.”
Two players who have played a key part in that run are Fernandes and Rashford. The duo not just lead our goal and assists tally for the season but have also been the difference-makers on the pitch.
Fonseca is familiar with Fernandes’ ability on the pitch and his desire to win all the time. Hopefully, the United star will prove the Roma boss right.
“What he’s doing in Manchester is also amazing. He’s a player with a strong personality, he wants to win all the time.”
A challenge to remember!
Fonseca is looking forward to facing United, who he describes as the biggest challenge of his career. Considering what is at stake, it certainly is a case of winner takes all.
“To play a semi-final against Manchester United is maybe the biggest challenge in my career and European competitions.”
The Roma boss admitted earlier this week that he intends to attack United rather than take a defensive approach. Given our prowess on the break, this could very well work in our favour.
